I've had this for a month and it stopped blowing mist. It ran completely dry last night and I cleaned out the reservoir with the brush and rinsed with warm water from the vegetable sprayer in the kitchen. Now when I turn it on, the fan blows air but there is no mist. Help!
I think I found the problem.
unplug humidifer, remove top tank, empty all water out of base. dry off.
turn unit upside down.
unscrew five visible screws.
use a screw driver to pull off the black foam foot pads. you will find more screws there.
pull off the base.
look next to the fan, you will see a metal "tower" going up into the reservoir. Is it dirty such as white chalky substance on it? Clean it with cotton swabs. Clean the fan while your at it if needed.
You will see a small gray box with two metal tabs twisted. Untwist them and pull off the top.
On that metal "tower" you will see a small black chip connected to the circuit board where you just removed the metal top. Does black chip have black marks on the circuit board? Mine does. I suspect the "tower" which draws heat from this black chip was no longer able to cool because of the white chalk buildup on the tower, furthermore, the chip became too hot and caused the black chip to overheat (again black marks on the circuit board).
The chip has on it "FTR 02N" and a "54F" at the bottom. I tried doing some basic searching on internet to see if it could be replaced, but didn't find anything.
For those who don't have this problem yet, just keep that metal cooling tower clean.
So what is the solution at the end of this long analysis?

FTR 02N is simply a high frequency transistor. Try to replace it to another type. I have seen FTR 02N in my ultrasonic nebuliser (it's now working.
I think ideal solution is replace all generator circuit. connect a 5 Ohm resistor parallel to the piezoelectric us emitter. Then find simple circuit of negative differential resistor, connect it in series with the emitter to adjustable power supply, then adjust voltage for maximum generating.

I assembled one of the upper circuits and i can say: it works.
I used a transistor from some office technics D1762.
You can replace it with any high-frequency(fT~50-100 MHz) transistor.
How about Radio Shack - TIP31 NPN Transistor or TIP120 NPN-D Transistor or NTE2633 - T-NPN SI High-Frequency Video Driver

Didn't run dry just stopped vaporizing water. Fan works OK

Having the same problem too....
It was so odd that after just few uses, the humidifier stopped working. I had cleaned it and was so frustrated that it wasn't working... 11:00 at night, grandchild staying over who started coughing in her sleep... you know the DEAL!!!! The fan was blowing really well--- no mist in sight! I followed the solution here and I did get it to work (Yes!). I do have to add that it was very hard to get the base (grey part) off. But it worked. Thank you and to this site also. Just shows what a concerned Nana and the Internet can do... LOL!
