To calculate 7-2=5 (for example) on a business calculator: 7 + (all positive entries are followed by the + key) 2 - (all negative entries are followed by the - key) * (The Total key, marked with a star or a T finishes the calculation.)
It seems strange to people who use handheld calculators, but this is how adding machines have worked since the days of hand-cranked adding machines. The subtotal key (marked with S or a diamond) prints the running total without clearing it back to zero.

Just had this EXACT problem on a Sharp EL-9200C. I got the down arrow to go away and then the calculator functioned like normal. Here's how: I got a ball point pen and rapidly activated the reset button on the back, then rapidly pressing the CL key... probably about 45-50 times, but eventually it cleared all the memory out and the calc was able to boot up. This was after replacing the batteries multiple times and trying every key and every 2ndF key. I feel like the master of the universe now!

Don't refill toner cartridges on professional business machines. In most cases it is against the terms of the lease, as there is a clause for the company to supply toner, and they know when toner cartridges are changed. Also the quality is different and may damage the machine.

This says;
How do I reset my printer toner chip?
Press the tiny reset button located beside the chip and hold for 10 seconds. Depending on the brand and model of the cartridge, you may not need to hold the button for 10 seconds, but it won't harm the cartridge so do it anyway just to be safe.

'Check Paper Tray' tells you to check the paper is the correct paper from that you are trying to print. Your Paper Tray has Letter size in it and Microsoft Word is set to A4 (or Legal). The 'Change Paper Tray' option is to remove the paper tray with Letter Size and replace it with A4 or tell the Printer to Print from Tray 2 (A4) rather than Tray 1 (Letter). Just need to change a setting on Printing software or on the machine itself.
To check the paper tray settings on a Sharp copier, you can:
Go to the Home screen and select the Trace Settings icon.
Select the Paper Trays.
Select the tray you want to check.
View the list of paper types for that tray.
You can also change the paper tray settings by going to Setting mode and selecting System Settings ? Copy Settings ? Initial Status Settings ? Paper Tray.

Press the red [C-CE] button twice, then the yellow [+TAX] button.
Then type in the Tax percentage. Press [+TAX] again and then the [C-CE] twice again.

What OS does your computer have? I have found a site that claims to have the PCL6 drivers for Vista and Windows 7 (32-bit) and earlier versions of Windows. https://www.driveridentifier.com/scan/sharp-ar-m420u/download/1550221446/A13F4E2F524A4FE29DF6E43348CDEF86/LPTENUM%5CSHARPAR-M420U8CB4 . However, several of the drivers are listed as 3rd party and in the .rar format. (You need 7-Zip or a similar program to extract that archive.) If you have a recent version of Windows, the above driver packages won't help. Windows 10 and 11 require manufacturer signed 64-bit drivers.
I don't see an AR-M420 listed at https://global.sharp/restricted/print/select.html?view=2& . I tried several regions. It looks like the manufacturer stopped supporting the unit.
Unfortunately, this all-in-one printer will not interface with any wireless phone or gadget. (If it has a Fax function, it might let you daisy chain it to a landline wired phone.) I wish that I had better news for you.

A common cause of faded or faint printouts from your inkjet printer, is dried ink particles causing a blockage. The printheads on an ink cartridge can be become blocked if the printer is not used for a period of time, so it is recommended to print a few pages each month to maintain the print quality
