First you need to remove the keyboard to gain access to the CMOS battery (Acer call them a RTC battery)

HERE is a direct link to a free full ACER service manual download for your Acer extensa 500 series laptop. Please follow Keyboard removal pages 55,56 then follow removing the CPU Heat Sink and CPU Board, page 62, then RTC battery removal on page 63.

Not entirly sure never seen it from your angle, I just see my solution with four empty stars at present, normally when posters accept my solution they can rate it as FixYa/Helpfull/Thanks for tying and inapriopriate, no big drama, i just like racking up expertise ratings, Bob thankyou for seeking to do so.
I questioned fixya re-ratings on premium problems and apparently there is a accept solution button that customer can press and thats rates as fixya.
