The best bet is to install Java in a different folder the default is

C:\Program files\java\jre6

I suggest using jre6x instead of jre6, first download THIS file install the latest version of SunmicrosystemsJava v6.0.160.1 then run the excellent JavaRa v1.15 its part of the RaProducts range and select remove all older versions of Java under the additional taks option it will clean up working folder and just leave you the latest version.

Note: This will method will also solve the core files upacking error 25099

What version of Java do you have running? Have you tried uninstalling the JVM (add/remove software in control panel) and re-loading from the most current version from Sun? V6.16 is most current:

Are you getting an error or just a blank white content pane with a Java icon at the top?

    Ok try this:

    1) In IE go to Tools> Internet Options> Security and unchecked the box for protected mode.

    2) Then remove the current version of Java
    3) Download an older version here:http://java.sun.com/products/archive/
    Try V5.15 that's pretty stable.

I do have two followup questions is this a Vista machine or XP - and what SP rev?
I presumed you are using IE - what version? Have you tried Firefox 3.5; if so do you still get the problem?

Let me know how it goes.

One more thing - when you are removing Java - do you have multiple versions/updates installed?
    Sometimes there are 5 or 6 listed ... i.e.:
    Java 6 update 5
Java 6 update 7 and so on ...
You have to remove all of them in case you haven't already tried that.
