You have to open the lid to the scent pad heater tray. the vicks pads go inside of there. now if you touch them with your hands you need to immediately wash hands after. cause of the fumes will be very strong. then close unit and turn on and it should work properly

What model? Their website has manual for most models. Search for you model, then click on the "Package Information" tab on that model's product page. E.g.:

This is the v3900 page:

This is the manual on the "Package Information" tab of that page:

Vicks v4500 humidifier stopped working. Indicates that 'desired humidity reached' but it clearly hasn't been reached. Lights are functioning but humidifier does not operate.

i know why. clean the small long tubular thing that is sucking the water. put a q tip in there and get the gunk out. thats what you need to do -- try it and let me know if it worked. msoobhawan@gmail.com it worked for me!

How do I put the vicks vaporub in the humidifier?

If you read the Vicks bottle it says not to heat the product. I'll quote the label:

"Do not heat. Never expose VapoRub to flame, microwave, or place in any container in which you are heating water. Such improper use may cause the mixture to splatter and result in burns."

Keep in mind, all of that in in bold as well.

I added water and the vicks medicine and no steam

medication was never meant to go into a humidifier. it clogs the transducer. if you can clean the vicks off the transducer plate you might squeeze another season out of it, otherwise by adding medication to the machine you just gave it an early death.
