Clean the glass in the area where the fed paper is scanned. There may be some white out or glue or just ink or toner from faxing or copying that is built up there.
Most likely this is a print head issue. The print head is what the cartridges sit in inside of the printer. To attempt to resolve it, do the following:
(1) Open the printer
(2) Remove the ink cartridges from the print head.
(3) Use cotton swabs dipped in hot water or a mix of hot water and isopropyl alcohol to thoroughly clean the print head.
(4) Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab.
(5) Once finished, allow to dry and replace the cartridges
(6) Try to print something now
If that does not work then you have one of two possibilities:
(1) One of the ink cartridges is defective and causing the error
(2) If it's definitely not that, then the print head will need to be replaced.
paper jam or some sensor error, try to clean the sensor, locate the sensor under the pump, where the printer head park the dis assemble and get the sensor, then clean with water or alcojol..
If your computer has an SD card slot the appropriate program should automatically open for downloading. I am a Windows user so I can go into Windows Photo Gallery. From there I can view the pictures when I click the recent import icon
doesn't LC51M refer to Magenta(red) not Cyan(blue). on my J435W the colors goes as follows: BK Y C M LC71 Series cartridges. Maybe you have them switched around? just a thought.

5. Reconnect the usb cable from the printer then to your computer. Make sure that it is connected securely.

Hope this helps. Rate if it works.
Thanks
Assuming you already have the printer hooked up and installed, cause you didn't mention how to install it, just open the picture you want to print in Paint (windows) Or Acorn (Mac OSX) and File -> Print. You could also right click on the picture and click Print.
Hope this helps,

Hi, below is from the brother website for your model. Very common for the ink heads to become clogged /dry out. You probably have done this but here it is anyway. your print head is part of the machine, so it will need to be disassembled to clean it, That can be very difficult. Try the following anyway, it might help you. also, you could try using a Q-Tip wet with vinegar water to get under to the bottom of the print heads, if you can get the head to move off its dock and then unplug it when its moved over. anyway here is the Brother link info (without pictures-see the link above if you need the pictures)
Print a Print Quality Check Sheet.
ress the Ink or Ink Management key on the control panel of the machine.
Press the up or down arrow key to choose Test Print and press OK.
Press the up or down arrow key to choose Print Quality and press OK.
Press Color (Colour) start. The machine begins printing the Print Quality Check Sheet.
Closely examine the Print Quality Check Sheet. Each of the four colors is represented by a slanted square pattern made up of individual blocks. The colors should appear in the following order from left to right: Black - Yellow - Cyan - Magenta.
Compare the print quality of the Check Sheet you just printed with the three examples listed below:
(A) One or more complete blocks of colors are missing: (B) Most of the short diagonal lines are missing from one or more color blocks: (C)Some parts of the short diagonal lines are missing from one or more color blocks:
The display will then ask you if the print quality is OK for black. Press the down arrow key or 2 or "-" to chooseNo for black with the problem.
The display will then ask you if the print quality is OK for Color. Press down the arrow key or 2 or "-" to chooseNo for color with the problem.
The display will then show Start Cleaning? Yes No. Press the up arrow key or 1 or "+" to choose Yes and the machine will start cleaning the color ink cartridges.
When the machine completes cleaning the print head, press Color(Colour) Start. Another Print Quality Check Sheet will print.
Repeat the cleaning and the quality check process following the Step 4-7.
Compare the second or third Print Quality Check Sheet with the first one you printed in step1:
If the print quality on the first Check Sheet matched Example (A) or (B) and you do not see any improvement on the second or third Check Sheet
If the print quality on the first Check Sheet matched Example (A) or (B) and you see some improvement on the second or third Check Sheet but it's not perfect, repeat the cleaning and the quality check process three more times (totally five times).
If the print quality on the first Check Sheet matched Example (C) and you do not see any improvement on the second or third Check Sheet, repeat the cleaning and the quality check process three more times (totally five times).
