Won't turn on

I was using my 30d with the 580EX,I turned both off . When I turned them back on after about 10 min. the speedlite didn't turn on I replaced the Battery's with new ones still nothin.

    My 580EX made a loud popping sound & won't come on. Does this mean it's probably flashed it's last flash? It won't turn back one. I've had it since 2006 used professionally. Probably has had 60,000-80,000 fires. What is the life expentancy on these?
