Clear cmos jumper

Remove the jumper plug from the CMOS jumper (CLEAR CMOS) pins 2 and 3. Place the jumper plug on the CMOS jumper (CLEAR CMOS) pins 1 and 2 and wait approximately five seconds. Remove the jumper plug and replace it on the CMOS jumper (CLEAR CMOS) pins 2 and 3

Clearing the BIOS settings
CAUTION: Do not change any jumper setting while the computer is on. Damage to the motherboard can result.
This motherboard has jumpers to clear the Real Time Clock (RTC) RAM in CMOS.

Clearing CMOS

To clear CMOS, follow these steps:

1. Temporarily set jumper Clear CMOS (CLRTC) to pins 1-2.
2. Wait 5-10 seconds and then return the jumper to pins 2-3.

When you startup the PC you will need to enter BIOS setup to reset any custom BIOS settings.

Clearing the BIOS password

The BIOS password is used to protect BIOS settings from unwanted changes. If you have forgotten your password you may disable password checking.
To erase the BIOS password follow these steps:

1. Turn OFF the computer and unplug the power cord.
2. Locate the jumper labeled Clear P.W. The jumper is found at the lower right edge of the motherboard.
3. Move the jumper on jumper Clear P.W. to pins 1-2.
4. Plug the power cord and turn ON the computer.

Hold down the F10 key during the startup process and enter BIOS setup to change or clear the password.

After changing or clearing the BIOS passwords, remember to reset the jumper to pins 2-3.

Use this jumper to clear the CMOS values (e.g. date information and BIOS configurations) and

reset the CMOS values to factory defaults. To clear the CMOS values, place a jumper cap on the

two pins to temporarily short the two pins or use a metal object like a screwdriver to touch the two

pins for a few seconds.

• Always turn off your computer and unplug the power cord from the power outlet before

clearing the CMOS values.

• After clearing the CMOS values and before turning on your computer, be sure to remove

the jumper cap from the jumper. Failure to do so may cause damage to the motherboard.

• After system restart, go to BIOS Setup to load factory defaults (select Load Optimized

Defaults) or manually configure the BIOS settings (refer to Chapter 2, "BIOS Setup," for

BIOS configurations).

A. By Using Software:
I have found that using Dogber1's Dell Password generator is a great solution to this problem. It is free and takes approximately 10 seconds to download from his site.

B. By Using the Motherboard Jumper:
In most motherboards CMOS battery is soldered, which makes it difficult to remove the battery. In this case we use another method.
Almost all motherboards contain a jumper that can clear all CMOS settings along with the BIOS password. The location of this jumper varies depending upon the motherboard brand. You should read your motherboard manual to check its location. If you don't have the manual then look for the jumpers near the CMOS battery. Most of the manufacturer label the jumper as CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc.
When you find the jumper, look carefully. There will be 3 pins and the jumper will be joining the center pin to either left or right pin. What you need to do, is remove the jumper and join the center pin to the opposite pin. e.g. if the jumper joins center pin to left pin, then remove it and join center pin to right pin. Now wait for a few seconds and then again remove the jumper and join the center pin to left pin.
Make sure to turn the PC off before opening the cabinet and resetting the jumper.

Try clearing the CMOS --- the down side is your lose all your setting --- the up side is you should be
able to access your BIOS

Clear CMOS Jumper: CLR_CMOS1 ( Located near CMOS battery )
The motherboard uses CMOS RAM to store the basic hardware information (such as BIOS data,
date, time information, hardware password...etc.). Clear CMOS data is the fast way to go back to
factory default when the BIOS settings were mistakenly modified.
The steps to clear CMOS data are :
1. Turn off the computer, unplug the power cord from the power outlet.
2. Remove jumper cap from pins 2-3, put it onto pins 1-2 to short them.
This will clear CMOS data.
3. Return the setting to its original with pins 2-3 closed.
4. Plug in the power cord to your computer and turn it on.
5. Go to BIOS Setup to configure new system as described in next chapter.

jumper is nothing but a wire which shorts two points. if its standard then it is black in color with two holes at bottom and rectangular in shape about 2 cm x 3 cm the closed part would be facing you about 1cm x 2 cm. You can understand its quite small.

If you have cleared the bios (cmos) at the jumpers....must be off the jumper for at least 1 minute! then your problem is the hard drive, either replace it or reinstall your operating system

At his time you need to open the back cover of you laptop to solve the problem. You need to reset the CMOS battery of jamper to clear BIOS password. To open the back cover you need to remove first the laptop battery after that fine and remove some screw.
Once you have already remove the screw and the cover you can see there a small circle CMOS battery you need to remove is to clear all stored password in CMOS memory. You can also see there a jamper near the CMOS battery just remove that and turn on your laptop with in 10 seconds and turn off. Reinsert the jamper with the same position.
Now the CMOS password are already clear just turn on your laptop first before you close the cover.
