THE LOCK THAT SPRINGS INTO PLACE WHEN I OPEN THIS THE SUITCASE DOES NOT OPEN IT SEEMS TO REMAIN LOCKED ALTHOUGH THE COMBINATION IS GOOD, THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE TSA LOCK, IT IS VERY LOOSE. HOW DO I OPEN THE SUITCASE WITH OUT THIS
I can't answer the problem - but am interested as we had an identical failure on holiday in South Africa. We had to force the case open as the lock and the mechanism seemed to have come adrift in that when moving the lever with the correct combination - the case neither opened or closed. I'm sending it back to Samsonite under warranty to hopefully get it repaired/replaced. I rang the UK number listed on the Samsonite website. Bit disappointed as Samsonite should be more reliable - particularly given the price of the case, at £295, isn't exactly cheap.
Had the same problem with my Graviton, bought in 2008. On a film shoot to the Caribbean the lock combination changed and I had to get someone to pick it at a luggage store in Miami; the Samsonite guy there had no idea. Then it did it again--three times--as the shoot continued in India and Turkey, eventually locking itself in the open position. I got one email in India saying Samsonite would be back to me in two weeks with an address in New Delhi. Still waiting three months later. Back in Canada, I spoke with a very nice Samsonite person on the phone. He sent me a new lock but without instructions. This is why I'm on this site, searching.
By way of update. I sent the case back under warranty to Samsonite UK (details listed on their website). After looking at the case and satisfying themselves it was a design failure, rather than any incorrectly applied force that ended up in the lock mechanism coming adrift. They replaced the case with a similar priced model of my choosing (Pro-DLX3) and were very helpful about rectifying the fault in the end.
