This problem has happened on two of my Dells. Both Dells had the "eraser head" pointer above the "B" key (which I never used). The solution both times was to open the laptop, cut the small ribbon cable that goes to this "eraser head". Then reassemble the laptop. Never happened again!
IF IT IS WHEEL MOUS, THEN THE WHEEL OF MOUSE GONE OUT OF PLACE. CHECK IT BY OPEN IT.
IF IT IS OPTICAL MOUSE THEN IS IS MOST LIKELY GONE OUT OF ORDER. ANY HOW CHECK IT TO OTHER COMPUTER.

Thanks for trying. The problem occurs without the USB mouse being connected and I am only using the touch pad
The mouse pointer is unstable and I dont use it.an HP Compaq.
